We might be wrapping this year up, but with just a couple of weeks to go, I’ve found myself another challenge to take part in. It’s a mini-challenge, being hosted over on the Language Learner’s Forum, and I’m really excited for it to begin.
So, I didn’t see this challenge when it was first posted on the forum (mid-November), but I spotted it last week and couldn’t resist joining up. I know I’ve got a lot to prep for the new year, still, but it’s something to tide me over in the meantime and it’ll be fun to take part in something with a lot of other people.
The challenge is this: for four weeks, from 15th December 2019 to 11th January 2020, the participants will work through the Teach Yourself Complete Old English book—not rushing to complete it, mind you, just getting a fair chunk of it done. The challenge’s organiser, IronMike, has posted his ideal schedule, which is what I’ll also be aiming for, as that will get us through 10/22 chapters in the four weeks.
If you want to take part, head over to the forum and sign up! The book is only £3.99 if you buy it on Kindle and you can get the Teach Yourself audio free on their website. I’ve already had a glance through the book and Old English looks like it’s going to be really interesting. It’s also going to be the first older language I’ve studied (generally, the language covered the period from around the fifth to eleventh centuries) because I’ve never been that interested in Latin or Ancient Greek, so there’s going to be a totally different approach that I’ll have to learn, as well.
Either way, the challenge starts tomorrow and I’m excited! If you plan to take part, let me know and if you want to know how I’m doing, keep an eye on that forum link. I’m not likely to post here about it again until the end of the challenge, but there should be chapter-by-chapter updates over there.
Happy studying!
