Clear the List: January 2017

Hi, guys! Just thought I’d get a quick post in before 2017 begins–and it’s the perfect time to be looking at goals, right? 😉

Clear the List: January 2017 Goals

I haven’t done one of these in a while, but I’ve spent the last couple of weeks thinking about what I want to achieve next year. As I said in my last post, my main aim of the year is to become consistent in my habits, particularly in my learning, and I’m hoping my monthly goals will reflect that.

What are my 2017 goals?

I’m going to obviously work on maintaining and improving my German–that’s my main language right now and it’s going to be the main language of my career (!) so I have to make sure it’s up to scratch. I also want to improve my Mandarin and Spanish, with the intention of travelling to Spain sometime in the year.

I’d also like to try out at least one language (maybe two, but that’s entirely dependent on my schedule and time management); I’m looking at Polish right now. I do not plan on starting that until February, however, as I have four deadlines between now and then, so I know I won’t have a lot of time to really throw myself into a new language.

What are January’s goals?

I’m choosing a language of the month to focus on (excluding German, as I use that pretty often now)–for January, it’s going to be Mandarin.

For the month of January, I’d like to:

And that’s it! A little more low-maintenance (I hope!), so I’m looking forward to seeing how much I get done. Those five minutes a day might not seem like a lot, but it’ll add up to a fair amount of work by the end of the month.

  1. Your 365 days of language learning with prompts sounds fun! I’m going to try to join! What do you do for your career that requires German? I’ll be anxious to see your IGLC posts in Mandarin as I am learning Mandarin, too! I hope you have an enjoyable and productive language learning January.

    • Hey, sorry I’ve only just got to your comment–they both got put in my spam folder for some reason! 🙁

I’m studying translation right now, so I use German for that–I’m going to be translating from German to English in the future.

And haha I feel bad I didn’t get to any of my IGLC posts now; hopefully, I’ll manage a couple before the end of the month.

I hope you’ve been having a good January too! 😀

  2. You have some great goals! I look forward to seeing your Instagram posts on IGLC since I am working on Mandarin, too. Your 365 days of language learning sounds fun! I am going to try to participate!

    • Haha, thanks… I felt like it was time to come back to it since I can feel how much it’s deteriorated since I stopped studying at uni. I hope all your studies go well this year! 😀

  3. Good luck with your January goals, Charlotte!
You say you focus on Mandarin this month: are you learning Spanish at the same time a little? Or will you rather focus on Spanish next month?

    • Thanks! I’ll be reading a little in Spanish and maybe watching things, but it’s unlikely that I’ll sit and study at any point the way I’m doing with Mandarin. This way it keeps the pressure off–and makes Spanish more tempting when I feel like procrastinating on other languages! 😉
