Clear the List: January 2016 (New Year Goals!)

Hey guys! So I’m prepping this a bit earlier than I usually would, because today is New Year’s Eve so I’m not going to be around this evening.

But as we go into this new year, it’s time to have a look back on 2015 – particularly my goals for December – and talk about what those 2016 goals are going to be.

Clear the List Jan 2016

So, my December goals were:

  • Study Slovak + the language of the day for 15m each up to the 12th, then the language of the day for 20m per day after.
  • Complete the Instagram Language Challenge.
  • Finish NPCR 4.
  • Read at least 10 ‘books’ for the Super Challenge.
  • Complete two more units of Teach Yourself Complete Spanish.
  • Set up my goals and organise the blog for 2016.
  • Blog at least once a week.
  • Workout at least three times a week.
  • Remember to relax!

I took the printable that Mariah at Food, Booze & Baggage provided and this was how those goals turned out:

So studying didn’t go as well as I’d hoped, but I’m on track to finish the IGLC today (with two posts, but oh well!). I did finally finish NPCR 4 and though I didn’t read all the German I wanted to, I did read a couple of hundred pages, which was more than I expected to. Working out and blogging also didn’t go particularly well (so blogging is staying on the list for January), but relaxing most certainly did! I’ve had a great holiday and it’s got me all ramped up for 2016! 😀

On that note, my January 2016 goals are:

  • Study the language of the day for 20m per day.

My languages for 2016 are: German, Mandarin, Spanish… and something new! I’m going to reveal my new language (and its challenge) tomorrow – but if you’re around, you’re welcome to guess!

  • Complete the uTalk language challenge.

I talked about this yesterday – and though I haven’t revealed my language for this challenge yet, I have in fact chosen: Danish! I’m planning a trip to Copenhagen at the end of January, so it’ll be good to get a little bit of practice in first!

  • Complete the Instagram Language Challenge.

I really enjoyed taking part in this this month (the first month I’ve completed it – it only took me eleven months of practice! 😉 ) so I’m going to try January with my new language.

  • Blog at least once a week.

Like I’ve said, I have a lot planned for 2016: I want to get back on top of my Monday (GCSE German) and Saturday (German Readalong) series and I have something planned out for Tuesdays too. There’ll be a sneak peek of that on my instagram this weekend, so keep an eye out (especially those of you learning English)! Plus, since I didn’t meet my goal this month, I feel like I need to try again in January, so this is back on the list.

  • Write for 15m a day.

I want to get back into writing (aside from this blog) in 2016, because it’s a hobby I really enjoy – but I’m terrible at just sitting down and doing it. Fifteen minutes a day isn’t much, and I can even write on my phone now I’ve set Google Docs up properly, so yay!

  • Workout 30m a day/four times a week.

Uh, yeah, so I really slacked on this (and after Christmas, it’s starting to show…) but I – along with some friends – have signed up to run the Vienna Half-Marathon in April. I’ve only ever run a 5K before so it’s going to be interesting to see how this turns out, but I know for a fact that I need to get on the training a bit!

I do have some larger goals for the whole of 2016 but no time to really write them now, so that’s probably a post for another day. However, if you are interested in setting up some long-term goals (split into actionable steps) then this printable I found on Pinterest (from Just a Girl and Her Blog) might be of some use. It helped me work out my priorities for this year and means I have steps I can follow every month.

And for the last time: I hope you’ve all had a wonderful 2015 and are looking forward to an even better 2016! 🙂

  1. I love how colorful your you made your habit tracker!! Sorry about the missing day…oops. Looks like you kept up pretty well, December is always hard to keep on track with the holidays and all. Best of luck in 2016!!

    • Haha thanks, stuff like this is basically the only time some of those coloured pens get used! 😉 Thanks for the tracker too – it’s such a helpful resource for keeping me on track! Good luck for your 2016 too! 😀

  2. I didn’t know you were learning Danish for the uTalk challenge! Held og lykke med det! I’ve been living in Copenhagen for a year and a half and desperately struggling with the language for a little longer than that… it is deceptively tricky!

    • Yes, I’m hoping to go to Copenhagen at the end of January/beginning of February for the first time so I thought it might be useful. You’re telling me though, the pronunciation is so strange! Sometimes it seems weirdly English, sometimes weirdly German… It is fun though 😀

    • Haha thanks, I finally managed it after a year of trying! 🙂 Let’s hope I can do it in Jan too (though I still have to catch up). Good luck for your January/2016 too! 😀
